Additionally, there's a diverse array of restaurants, bars, and clubs where you can savour local beer, catch a football game, and mingle with the welcoming locals.

Your tour guide will ensure you arrive at the briefing point well before 7:30 am. From the visitor center, your gorilla trekking journey begins around 8:00 am, rain or shine.

Prepare for an exhilarating gorilla trek through the dense jungle. You might spend hours navigating muddy slopes and thick vegetation in search of the magnificent mountain gorillas. But the moment you lay eyes on these gentle giants, the effort will melt away. Remember to stay a respectful distance, and if they approach, simply follow your guide's instructions. The awe-inspiring hour you spend observing them will be a memory you'll cherish forever.

To make the most of this Africa gorilla experience, I recommend getting in shape beforehand. Gorilla trekking can be physically demanding, but the reward is more than worth it. Expect to emerge from the jungle around 2:00 pm, ready to refuel with a packed lunch. Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Community Walk

Rise early and arrive at the visitors' center by 8:00 to embark on another primate viewing adventure in Kibale Forest. Known for its rich diversity of primates, Kibale is renowned as one of Africa's premier destinations for observing chimpanzees up-close in their natural habitat. With over 1500 chimpanzees and a dozen other primate species inhabiting the park's rainforest canopy, it offers an unparalleled opportunity for primate enthusiasts.

During your morning trek to locate the chimps, you may encounter other primate species such as the rare L'Hoest's monkey and red colobus monkey, along with black and white colobus, red-tailed monkey, blue monkey, olive baboon, and grey-cheeked mangabey. However, your main objective will be to find a group of habituated chimpanzees.

Led by an experienced tracker, you'll venture into the jungle in small groups, keeping an eye out for signs of chimpanzee activity and listening for their distinctive calls. The duration of the trek typically ranges from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the habituated chimpanzee group. Visitors may spend anywhere from 1 hour to a full day with the chimpanzees, with each sighting offering a unique and intimate experience.

In the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a haven for birdwatchers. Skilled birders can spot up to 50 species on a nature walk through the sanctuary, while primate enthusiasts may encounter over seven primate species in the treetops. With its abundance of fruit trees, the sanctuary is also an excellent location for observing other primate species. Managed through a community-based approach to natural resource management, the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary has greatly benefited the local residents living within the area.

Day 9: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast, you'll embark on a 6-7 hour drive covering approximately 400 km northward to reach Murchison Falls National Park. Situated in the remote northwest region of Uganda, the park is intersected by the Victoria Nile River. Here, the river plunges dramatically from the rift valley wall, forming the breathtaking Murchison Falls, which serves as the park's centerpiece. This cascade marks the culmination of an 80 km stretch of rapids. As the river flows downstream, it transforms into a tranquil stream that meanders across the rift valley floor before emptying into Lake Albert. This section of the river offers a remarkable wildlife spectacle, showcasing some of Uganda's most diverse wildlife.

Upon arrival, you'll check in at Murchison River Lodge, nestled in the heart of this remote region. The lodge is designed to blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings, providing guests with a comfortable safari experience while promoting a gentle connection with nature. The lodge's rooms are scattered across 30 acres of natural bush, offering stunning views of the Nile River from the main bar and restaurant. Guests can enjoy panoramic vistas of the park and observe the early journey of the River Nile as it flows downstream, passing between papyrus islands and pods of hippos.

Day 10: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

At Murchison Falls National Park, you'll have access to various guided safari activities. Begin your day with an early morning game drive as you head towards the Victoria Nile Delta. This area is renowned for its abundant birdlife and wildlife, including several endemic species such as the Rothschild’s giraffe, the Shoebill stork, and the red-throated bee-eater. Depending on the water level, you may also enjoy a short guided walk led by a ranger.

During the game drive, keep an eye out for the "Big Five," although rhinos are not present in the park. Buffalo and elephants are commonly sighted, and there's a healthy population of lions, which your guide will endeavor to track. Additionally, numerous antelope species inhabit the park's plains, including Uganda kob, oribi, Jackson’s hartebeest, Defassa waterbuck, grey duiker, and bushbuck. You may also spot Rothschild’s giraffe, leopard, and troops of the rare Pata’s monkey roaming the grassy plains.

In the afternoon, embark on a scheduled boat trip to the Murchison Waterfalls. If conditions permit, you'll have the opportunity to hike to the top of the falls, where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the cascading water.

Day 11: Rhino Tracking and Transfer to Entebbe

After an early breakfast, you will drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, located just outside the Murchison Falls Conservation Area, to track Uganda’s only rhinos in their natural habitat. The sanctuary is home to more than 30 southern white rhinos, many of which were born in Uganda. Accompanied by a guide, you'll have the opportunity for a close encounter with these magnificent creatures.

Despite the initial apprehension of tracking rhinos on foot, rest assured that they are accustomed to human presence due to the constant presence of armed anti-poaching rangers.

In addition to rhinos, the sanctuary boasts a diverse array of wildlife, including 350 bird species. Notable sightings may include giant kingfishers, Ross’s turacos, and the elusive shoebill. Other animals within the sanctuary's confines, protected by a 6-foot-tall electric fence, include leopards, hippos, crocodiles, bushbucks, and oribis. For the best chance of spotting the shoebill, consider participating in early-morning canoe trips to the adjacent swamp.

Following your visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you'll proceed directly to Entebbe to prepare for your return flight home. Please note that accommodation in Entebbe for the final night is not included in the itinerary.
